Jacksons house being demolished:

"Farewell to Jackson's house and orchard"

Just for you who may not know, this is Jackson's house. Jacksons was the big house with the big orchard that was on the shoulder of Springtown Camp along the Northland Road leading to the Branch Road. Jacksons and Springtown Camp were neighbours, so to speak. That orchard was the temptation of many a wee boy and many a wee girl from Springtown Camp over the years. I never actually met Mr and Mrs Jackson, although Mr Jackson did try to boot me up the hole on a few occasions, and quite understandably, as I was clambouring up and over the wire between his orchard and Springtown Camp having just helped myself to a jumper full of his orchard's finest. Mr and Mrs Jackson's orchard was very good to the children of Springtown over those years, apple cakes, toffee apples, but of course if you got too greedy you had to contend with cramps and the skitters.?As you can tell from the photo Jackson's house is now just about to be demolished. The orchard that was always so full of fruit over the years is now no more. The trees that we climbed, hearts thumping with fear and excitement in equal measure have been torn up by the bucket of the digger.?So I would like to say farewell to the Jacksons and their big house and their wonderful orchard. The memories I have are more precious for your parting.?Hugo
